St. Louis Truck 17, 2020 Spartan/Smeal 75' Rear Mount Aerial.

Posted by Martin MacKinnon on 4th Jan 2025

Not only does this rig carry the number: "17", just like the closest rigs to where I lived during my youth in Vancouver, but the VFRS (Vancouver Fire Rescue Service) currently also runs a large fleet of Spartan/Smeal pumpers & aerials. I noticed that there's what appears to be a crosslay hosebed incorporated into the rear bumper on the St. Louis model. Vancouver has that feature on their engine company rigs. Beside the similarities to Vancouver's fleet, the St. Louis Fire Department rigs have several rather rare features like: pump control panels and hose connections being on opposite sides of the body, large monitors mounted on the officer's side of rigs that carry an aerial device, & red aerials. I like the traditionally stylish intertwined: "STL FD" patches that appear in 3 places on the model. Some very minute, but eye-catching details are also to be found, like the orange ball on the electric wire coming off its own reel. As usual with Fire Replicas expectations are high while anticipating the arrival of the products, only to be surpassed upon receiving the items.
