Assembly pictures of Chicago's E-One Cyclone II Pumper scale model

Producing a replica of the Chicago Fire Department E-One Cyclone II Engines that is small enough to take home, is a painstaking process. Over 13 months, each of the hundreds of intricately detailed parts are designed, cast or fabricated, painted, decorated, and trimmed...then organized in small bins, ready for assembly. There is no substitute for the laborious tasks that each of the 35 skilled men and women perform. It is a sight to see as each team member patiently adheres each part to another, consistently analyzing the end result. As you scroll down the assembly pictures, take notice of the parts on each workstation and you will gain a greater appreciation for the process. And don't forget to add this modern workhorse to your Chicago collection.

About Engine 127 by Joe O'Brien

Engine 127 was organized with Truck 37 in 1919 at 5439 S Lake Park Ave. The 2 story 2 bay was built for motorized rigs. The firehouse was built in Hyde Park from 1919 to 1923 Engine 127 had no rig and took no runs. It was a company on paper and the firefighters were detailed out daily. In 1923 Engine 127 was taken out of service. In 1925 Engine 127 would be re-organized at 6411 S. Central Ave. The area known as the Clearings Industrial District. This area was growing in 1915 because of the railroad and new factories. The area did not have any fire protection to speak of. The Clearing’s Businessmen's Association built a 2 story 2 bay firehouse for a engine and ladder. The land was donated to the city and the building was rented to the city. At the sometime the city was annexing a 5-mile square parcel of vacant land for future growth. Today most of the annex land is Midway Airport.

The area flourished overtime and was built up to with new housing the 1927 Chicago Municipal airport would be renamed Midway in 1949 in honor of the WWII   victory at Midway Island. In 1991 A new firehouse was built at Midway at 5200 West 63rd Ave. The 8 bay doors have 4 to the street side and 4 to the Airport side. Engine 127 and the Ambulance respond out the street side bay on to 63rd, while ARFF equipment respond out the airport bay doors. The old firehouse still stands on Central Ave.
