Producing a replica of the Chicago Fire Department E-One Cyclone II Engines that is small enough to take home, is a painstaking process. Over 13 months, each of the hundreds of intricately detailed parts are designed, cast or fabricated, painted, decorated, and trimmed...then organized in small bins, ready for assembly. There is no substitute for the laborious tasks that each of the 35 skilled men and women perform. It is a sight to see as each team member patiently adheres each part to another, consistently analyzing the end result. As you scroll down the assembly pictures, take notice of the parts on each workstation and you will gain a greater appreciation for the process. And don't forget to add this modern workhorse to your Chicago collection.
About Engine 11 by Joe O'Brien
Engine 11 was organized in 1865 at 10 E. Hubbard their 2 story 1 bay frame firehouse was destroyed during the "Great Chicago Fire”. Late in 1872 a new 2 story brick building was built on the same site. In February of 1923 Engine 11 made the last Horse Drawn run for Chicago to Box 848 at State and Chicago. After they returned to quarters they used a motorized engine, on that date all CFD rigs were motorized. Engine 11 and Truck 9 were taken out of service and this firehouse closed when Engine 42 moved into the firehouse on Illinois St. Engine 11 and Truck 9 were reorganized in a new 3 bay firehouse at 5343 N. Cumberland Ave in 1974. Today the “Cumberland Caveman” are running a 2019 E-One.
