Assembly pics of Chicago's 1973-1975 American LaFrance Ladder scale models

The American LaFrance Trucks that Chicago Fire Department used in the 1970's were truly classic. Producing replicas of these beautiful rigs small enough to take home, is a painstaking process. Over 18 months, each of the hundreds of intricately detailed parts are designed, cast or fabricated, painted, decorated, and trimmed...then organized in small bins, ready for assembly. There is no substitute for the laborious tasks that each of the 35 skilled men and women perform. It is a sight to see as each team member patiently adheres each part to another, consistently analyzing the end result. As you scroll down the assembly pictures, take notice of the parts on each workstation and you will gain a greater appreciation for the process. And don't forget to add these Classic American LaFrance Ladder Chiefs to your Chicago collection.

    CFD FIrst District's Truck 3

Posted by Chief Michael Kuk on 18th Nov 2024

Within two years of the arrival of a 1973 American LaFrance truck at Engine 42's quarters, another American LaFrance aerial ladder was placed in service at the Marina Towers station. The big difference was the storage of the ground ladders. This time they were carried vertically. It's interesting to note that his was a BIG house. It was a corner-lot very modern station with six apparatus doors. Impressive indeed! Thanks to Fire replicas, I am able to relive this history and have another outstanding model for my CFD collection! BTW... Commissioner Quinn's buggies were kept there, plus a roster of specialized CFD and CD rigs. Ambulance 42 ran out of there, and even Big John stood proud on the apparatus floor. The Floodlight wagon and Reserve Snorkel 1 were housed here until called out for a special assignment. As a young visiting fireman in his 20's, I was in awe!
